The Fontainebleau Bulldogs will head out to take on the Chalmette Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Fontainebleau has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Chalmette will arrive with four straight victories.
Fontainebleau is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Salmen on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Bulldogs came up short against the Spartans, falling 32-7.
Fontainebleau didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Conner Tyson and Ky'Ron Clark. Travis Green was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks, forcing 54 fumbles, and making 11 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Chalmette posted their closest win since November 22, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 23-20 victory over Northshore.
Fontainebleau better keep an eye on Breez Wilson. He was instrumental in Chalmette's win, rushing for 80 yards and one score on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 178 yards and one TD on only 14 passes. Wilson's passing game has become a key predictor of the Owls' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Wilson's aerial production (86 yards to be exact) went to Rashawn Bangham, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Chalmette's defense and their five sacks. Northshore's QB won't forget Zion Robertson anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Panthers' side was David Gonzalez, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
Fontainebleau's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Chalmette, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Fontainebleau has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Chalmette struggles in that department as they've been averaging 190.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Fontainebleau couldn't quite get it done against Chalmette when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 16-6. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
