Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Korbyn Hammel and Zion Bellamy Lead Kokomo to Victory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carmel, Kokomo was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the New Haven Bulldogs with a sharp 90-70 victory. The Wildkats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Kokomo to victory were Zion Bellamy and Korbyn Hammel. Bellamy went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points and eight assists, while Hammel went 9 of 16 on his way to 25 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Hammel is now averaging an impressive 16.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Baris Moore, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Kokomo was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Kokomo's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for New Haven, they moved to 4-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Kokomo will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Logansport at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. As for New Haven, they and Merrillville will face off at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. New Haven has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
