The Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils posted their biggest win since December 15, 2023 on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat BASIS Phoenix 58-29 on the road. With that victory, Santa Cruz Valley brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Santa Cruz Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Contreras pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Harris, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Santa Cruz Valley pushed their record up to 8-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for BASIS Phoenix, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-12.
Santa Cruz Valley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Chandler Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Chandler Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Tuesday. As for BASIS Phoenix, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Mountainside at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Mountainside has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 27.
