On Saturday, Plainfield Central had just enough and edged out West Aurora 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Kaylynn Howe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maeve Carlton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Yorkville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Bradley-Bourbonnais on Saturday.
Isabella Rosauer looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, Kayla Kersting was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Plainfield Central's victory bumped their record up to 8-9-1. As for Yorkville, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Plainfield Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Yorkville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Plainfield Central might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Yorkville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
