The Orange County Fighting Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the William Monroe Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Orange County is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than William Monroe in Virginia (Orange County is ranked 109th, while William Monroe is ranked 292nd).
Even though Orange County has not done well against Albemarle recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. It was close, but Orange County ultimately received the gift of a 41-38 victory from a begrudging Fighting Hornetssquad. Despite the win, that was the fewest points they have scored all year.
Chloe Hebert continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was her third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Laney Fayard, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, William Monroe's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 43-14 loss at the hands of Turner Ashby.
Orange County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for William Monroe, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Orange County was taken down by William Monroe 65-24 in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Can Orange County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
