Baseball Game Preview: Nute Rams vs. Pittsfield Panthers

Nute is 1-8 against Pittsfield since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nute has three straight victories, Pittsfield has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Nute came out on top against Farmington on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Rams were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Tigers. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Beckett Viveiros was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Nute: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Nute got a big performance out of Ethan Burrows, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. The Rams are undefeated when Burrows posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Brady Angell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Pittsfield fell victim to Newmarket and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Mules, falling 20-0.

Nute pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Nute couldn't quite finish off Pittsfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
