Having just played yesterday, the Mullins Auctioneers will jump right back in to play the Crestwood Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mullins will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Crestwood is ranked second).
Mullins has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Wando on the road by a decisive 55-36 margin on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mullins has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Mullins saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lonnie Alston, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Alston also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Braden Hughes, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Crestwood put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with an 82-73 win over Lugoff-Elgin. Crestwood's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Mullins' defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Crestwood, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Mullins came up short against Crestwood in their previous meeting back in December of 2015, falling 90-85. Can Mullins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
