The Shelley Russets put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over Blackfoot. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Broncos players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaci Capson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Capson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Marlee Pieper was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Shelley pushed their record up to 17-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Blackfoot, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.
Shelley will be playing in front of their home fans against Idaho Falls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Idaho Falls will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Idaho Rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Shelley is ranked third). Blackfoot on the road again on Friday and play against Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hillcrest has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
