It was a good run, but the Lowry Buckaroos unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a hard 66-52 fall against Fernley. Lowry was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fernley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Lowry's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Savannah Stoker, who scored 12 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Britain Backus who scored 20 points. That was a full 38.5% of Lowry's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Fernley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taylor Tollestrup led the charge by scoring 18 points along with three steals and three blocks. Tollestrup is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. Nadia Velazquez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Lowry's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Fernley, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lowry will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Spring Creek at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Spring Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 last Wednesday. As for Fernley, they will head out on the road to take on Dayton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Dayton is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
