The Sparta Spartans will be home for the holidays to greet the Luther Knights at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Sparta is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, Sparta ended up a good deal behind Reedsburg and lost 69-50. While losing is never fun, Sparta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Reedsburg is ranked 86th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Amelia Russ, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. Elexa Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Luther scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Black River Falls with a sharp 54-28 win.
Sparta's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Luther, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Sparta didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Luther when the teams last played back in February, but they still walked away with a 50-45 win. Does Sparta have another victory up their sleeve, or will Luther turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
