Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Nick Jefferson of
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) is the 2024-25 Nevada MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2 senior guard led the Gaels to a 24-5 record and their second consecutive Class 5A state championship.
For the season, Jefferson averaged 17.6 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. He shot 48.9 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from 3-point range and 81.3 percent from the free throw line.

Jefferson was a steady presence in the postseason, scoring a team-high 14 points in a 63-46 victory over Centennial (Las Vegas) in the quarterfinals, posting 14 points and 10 assists in a 67-57 win over Desert Pines (Las Vegas) in the semifinals and tallying 12 points in a 71-59 triumph vs. Mojave (North Las Vegas) in the title game.
After averaging 14.0 points, 6.2 assists and 2.1 steals per contest to earn all-state honors as a junior, Jefferson took his game to the next level as a senior in leading Bishop Gorman to its 24th state championship in program history.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
