Alamo Heights is 0-4 against Harlandale since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Alamo Heights Mules will face off against the Harlandale Indians at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Alamo Heights was handed a two-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Highlands on Tuesday. Everything went Alamo Heights' way against Highlands as Alamo Heights made off with a 63-41 win. Given Alamo Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Highlands is ranked 978th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sophia Zadel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Magdalena Gutierrez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Harlandale waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Winn 73-49.
Harlandale had a senior duo take command as Maddison Sanchez dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds and Marissa Ortiz scored 20 points along with five assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sanchez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kamila Sosa, who scored five points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Alamo Heights pushed their record up to 24-8 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Harlandale, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 30-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Alamo Heights have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Harlandale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Alamo Heights ended up a good deal behind Harlandale in their previous meeting back in November of 2021, losing 66-51. Can Alamo Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
