After a string of three wins, the Wando Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Berkeley at home by a decisive 56-41 margin. Wando has struggled against the Stags recently, as their match on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Wando's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya Andrus, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals. Andrus is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Eikenberry, who scored nine points.
Berkeley found their leader in underclassman Madison Thomas, who scored 20 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Amani Mccray was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Wando's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-12. As for Berkeley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Stratford the next time they take the court. Wando will head out to face the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Stags will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
