Chaparral has been on the road for five straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Vista Murrieta Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaparral has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Chaparral scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Murrieta Valley by a score of 76-64. The win was all the more spectacular given Chaparral's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 673rd, while the Nighthawks are ranked 166th).
Chaparral got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was JoJo Bartlett out in front who scored 24 points along with six assists. Bartlett is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Creamer, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Vista Murrieta humbled the Rams with a 79-52 victory.
Vista Murrieta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brody Guinn led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cisco Munoz, who scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals.
Chaparral's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-18. As for Vista Murrieta, their win bumped their record up to 23-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Chaparral have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Vista Murrieta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
