Ashland is 0-10 against Thurston since April of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will head out to square off against the Colts at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Ashland took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Crater, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Grizzlies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Comets on Friday, sneaking past 7-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Grizzlies as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thurston). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Springfield a 25-0 shutout last Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Ella Wright and Mallory McGuire made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Wright pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, McGuire tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wright went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while McGuire went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Wright a new career-high.
In other batting news, Daphnie Heckel was a standout: she fired off three home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Raygan Litle was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI.
Thurston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .556 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Ashland's record is now 5-11. As for Thurston, their record now sits at 3-22.
Ashland suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Thurston when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
