The Cornerstone Charter Cardinals pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 67-59 loss to Carver. Cornerstone Charter lost against Carver in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 61-53 score last time.
Despite the loss, Cornerstone Charter still got an impressive performance from D'Trevion Harris, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. Harris scored a full 40.7% of Cornerstone Charter's points, the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tristan Cole was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carver to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonathan Gakeri, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Gakeri's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaqarius Houston, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Cornerstone Charter has fallen quite a ways from their 15-7 record last season and are now at 3-7. As for Carver, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6.
Cornerstone Charter will stay at home for another game and welcome Millennium at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Millennium has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 13. Carver will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Piedmont Classical at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Piedmont Classical focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
