The Yorba Linda Mustangs have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Canyon on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Yorba Linda can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Canyon is ranked 39th).
Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Goodall out in front who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. Goodall has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Staf Yilmazturk, who scored four points along with 16 rebounds and two steals.
Yorba Linda's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Canyon, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
Yorba Linda will be playing in front of their home fans against Villa Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Canyon, they will head out on the road to take on Foothill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Foothill's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
