Two dominant signal callers in Hayden Johnson and Tommy Hunsicker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Manheim Township Blue Streaks will head out on the road to face off against the Wilson Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Manheim Township sitting on nine straight wins and Wilson on seven.
Manheim Township stacked a ninth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They didn't even let Penn Manor onto the board and left with a 59-0 win. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Manheim Township had established a 45 point advantage.
Manheim Township's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Johnson, who rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Declan Clancy was in the mix too, providing Manheim Township with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Wilson really took it to J.P. McCaskey for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-20 victory on the road. With Wilson ahead 27-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Wilson can attribute much of their success to Hunsicker, who threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes, and Correll Akings, who gained 153 total yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Edison Case, who picked up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Manheim Township's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-7 J.P. McCaskey and 2-7 Hempfield (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.6% over those games). As for Wilson, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Manheim Township came up short against Wilson in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 27-21. Thankfully for Manheim Township, Cameron Jones (who rushed for 248 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and also threw for five yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
