Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Laporte turned things around against Red Lake on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 16-0 shutout. The game marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season.
Macey Morris and McKenna Lindahl made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Morris tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Lindahl pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Morris has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Morris went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Lindahl went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base was Lindahl's first of the season.
In other batting news, Aubree Katzenmeyer was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Breelie Becker was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Pine River-Backus ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lake of the Woods, sneaking past 12-10. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Pine River-Backus, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Laporte might still be hurting after the 23-7 loss they got from Pine River-Backus in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
