This season hasn't been kind to The Vasquez Mustangs, who are still winless after their ninth game. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hamilton. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Vasquez's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nathan Sanchez, who gained 93 total yards and two touchdowns, and Anthony Escobedo who gained 61 total yards and three touchdowns.
William Hamlett went supernova for Hamilton, rushing for 305 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Seth Aanestad was another key contributor, picking up 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Vasquez to a paltry 218 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Hamilton's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Josh Torres and his two sacks.
Vasquez's loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.8 points per game. As for Hamilton, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vasquez will take on Santa Rosa Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hamilton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Desert Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
