Watertown has gone a perfect 4-0 against Monterey recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Purple Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Watertown will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
16 must be Watertown's lucky number: they beat York Institute with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Purple Tigers didn't even let the Dragons on the board, marking the Purple Tigers' second-straight 16-0 shutout. The Purple Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.
Avery Taylor made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilyana Polli, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Wood, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Watertown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Monterey came up short against White County on Monday and fell 6-3. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Watertown, Monterey also got a great game from a two-way player: Haylee Garthwait. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Garthwait was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.
Garthwait wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haylee Trevathan, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Trevathan hit this season.
Watertown's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Monterey, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6-1.
Watertown beat Monterey 5-0 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Purple Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
