The Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Ravenscroft Ravens at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Ravenscroft will be up against a hot Wake Christian Academy squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Wake Christian Academy's pitchers stepped up to hand GRACE Christian a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Carter Collins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Collins was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Avery McArthur looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Will Curry was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Trace Turner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Wake Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ravenscroft). They were the clear victor by a 21-3 margin over St. David's on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Ravens as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Ethan Wagnon looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew Hutter, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Matt Ulicny also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Wake Christian Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Ravenscroft, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wake Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ravenscroft struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wake Christian Academy couldn't quite get it done against Ravenscroft when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can Wake Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
