The Berthoud Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Steamboat Springs Sailors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Berthoud will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Berthoud can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past The Academy 56-9 on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-6.
Alex Larson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 47-9, which was the final score in Steamboat Springs' tilt against Fort Lupton on Friday. Steamboat Springs has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Berthoud's victory was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 The Academy and 2-6 Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 31.4% over those games). As for Steamboat Springs, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Berthoud strolled past Steamboat Springs when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 38-21. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Steamboat Springs' Austin Moore, who picked up 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Berthoud to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
