Calhoun County came into Friday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 win over Blackville-Hilda on Friday.
Calhoun County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Takara Brown, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brown is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Raniya Tyler was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Ridge Spring-Monetta's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They fell just short of North by a score of 40-37.
Calhoun County's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, they dropped their record down to 7-16 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Calhoun County was able to grind out a solid victory over the Trojans in their previous matchup back in January, winning 54-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
