Waterford and Denair are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Waterford is looking for their season's first win.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Waterford's offense. They lost 13-0 to Mariposa County last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, while Denair put up plenty of runs last Wednesday, the same can't be said for Modesto Christian. The Coyotes were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Crusaders. The result was nothing new for the Coyotes, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Makayla Dayton and Havyn Boucher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Dayton kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Boucher tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Dayton went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run, while Boucher got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. What's more, Boucher posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Braelyn Marroquin was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Prine, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one triple.
Denair always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .838. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Denair pushed their record up to 10-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Waterford, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
Waterford suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Denair when the teams last played back in March. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
