The Westview Wolverines will face off against the Carlsbad Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Westview 2.2, Carlsbad 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Westview is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Santana.
Kaya Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Guzman, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Jessica Krogstad was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Westview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santana only posted a batting average of .083.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Carlsbad, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They skirted past Mira Mesa 3-1. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Sofia Tillis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Tillis was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kendall Rivera was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Allison Lasher, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Carlsbad's win bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Westview, their victory bumped their record up to 18-5-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Westview hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Carlsbad struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Westview couldn't quite get it done against Carlsbad in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 6-3. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
