The Ashbrook Greenwave put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by East Gaston at home to the tune of 73-43. Given Ashbrook's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while East Gaston is ranked 267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Ashbrook to victory were Jamari Smith and Issac Byers Jr. Smith scored 14 points along with 9 assists and 8 rebounds, while Byers Jr scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Byers Jr has scored at least 25% of Ashbrook's points. Another player making a difference was Kenneth Greene Jr, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds.
Ashbrook pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for East Gaston, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Ashbrook will head out on the road to face off against East Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Lincoln focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for East Gaston, they will face off against Rock Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
