Basketball Recap: East Rutherford Comes Up Short

East Rutherford lost against Shelby back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The East Rutherford Cavaliers fell 64-56 to the Shelby Golden Lions. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while the Golden Lions are ranked 240th).

Despite the loss, East Rutherford still got an impressive performance from Jj Arrowood, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 boards. That's the most rebounds Arrowood has posted since back in December of 2023. Matthew Pinkerton was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Even though they lost, East Rutherford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

East Rutherford has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Shelby, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Rutherford will square off against Brevard at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. East Rutherford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Brevard likes a good challenge. As for Shelby, they will face off against Burns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Burns will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Shelby surely won't give up without a fight.
