The University Christian Christians will head out on the road to square off against the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games University Christian has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
University Christian took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Atlantic Coast, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Christians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Stingrays on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Christians have won by just one run.
Nathan Nunez looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, University Christian let Bryson Harnage and Bo Wilson run wild. Harnage went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Wilson scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennen Crouch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Episcopal School of Jacksonville came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 3-0.
Jack Ottesen was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
Episcopal School of Jacksonville pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for University Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. University Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Episcopal School of Jacksonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
