The Byers Bulldogs were the 51-36 winner over the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Byers took a 58-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Evangel Christian Academy. Byers has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Byers' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Allie Pelton, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Madilee Olsen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Byers were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Evangel Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sadie Caldwell led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Caldwell pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mia Castro, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and six steals.
Byers has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Evangel Christian Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Byers will take on Stratton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Stratton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season. As for Evangel Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Kit Carson at 4:00 p.m. Kit Carson is coming into the match with four straight losses on the road, meaning Evangel Christian Academy will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
