After a string of six wins, the Clayton Comets's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to United Faith Christian Academy 72-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Clayton's loss came despite strong showings from Justice Mitchell and Andrew Grimes. Mitchell shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Grimes dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Grimes has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Qua'shaun Williams was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
JD Bowden continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for United Faith Christian Academy, scoring 23 points along with nine assists and two steals. Bowden continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Sutherland, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Clayton's defeat dropped their record down to 11-4. As for United Faith Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton will take on Corinth Holders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Corinth Holders is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for United Faith Christian Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Hills Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Hills Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 310th, while United Faith Christian Academy is ranked 22nd).
