Wharton hasn't had much luck against Newsome recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wharton Wildcats will square off against the Newsome Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Wharton beats Newsome with 15 runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Everything went Wharton's way against Sickles on Thursday as Wharton made off with a 15-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Eliza Connell made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (five).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madelyn Parker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Skylah Stephens, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Newsome sidestepped Plant for a 3-1 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted against the Panthers since March 6, 2021.
Allyson Conner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Newsome saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amaya Nunez, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Wharton's record is now 2-0. As for Newsome, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Wharton might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from Newsome when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Wharton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
