Caldera extended their winning streak to 14 on Friday, bumping them up to 14-0. They put the hurt on the Mountain View Cougars with a sharp 18-8 win. That's more bragging rights for Caldera, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Brooke Chapin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Chapin was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makenzie Guerin, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Avery Keldsen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Caldera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted an OBP of .444.
As for Mountain View, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this contest were averaging 3.18 runs allowed.
On Mountain View's side, Cadence Kennedy was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Keilah McCarthy, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Caldera and Mountain View should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings. Caldera (ranked 12th) will meet Bend (ranked 107th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mountain View will challenge Summit at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (37 vs. 173).
