4A Region 1 recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week, UMS-Wright Prep beat Wilcox Central 50-6. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Bulldogs.
The Jaguars lost to UMS-Wright Prep 50-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Terry Curtis' team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gunner Roach threw for 146 yards and Christian Pearsall had 118 yards receiving. On the ground Troy Dixon contributed 121 yards. Bobby Guthans helped UMS-Wright Prep's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 12 yards.
Brayden Burkhardt was a passing and rushing force as Andalusia topped Escambia County. He completed 9 passes for 117 yards and also ran for 42 yards. Burkhardt's favorite target this week was Devante Jackson, who caught 3 passes for 46 yards.
Dixon was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 121 yards on 17 carries as the Bulldogs beat Wilcox Central. Teammate Michael Matthews added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.
UMS-Wright Prep's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Roach has thrown for 1,591 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Jaylon Jones has 45 catches for 848 yards.
Dixon of the UMS-Wright Prep is only 21 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Dixon has rushed for 979 yards on 159 carries so far this year.
