The Landrum Cardinals were the 21-0 winner over the Liberty Red Devils when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Landrum took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Liberty on Thursday. Landrum's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Landrum lost, one person who can't be blamed is Colton Link. Despite the final result, he rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Titus Poore, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Landrum's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Liberty, Ninety Six, and Chesnee. As for Liberty, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-3.
Landrum will take on Blacksburg at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Blacksburg is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to face off against Chesnee at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Chesnee is ranked 123rd, while Liberty is ranked 138th).
