Baseball Game Preview: Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES vs. Midd-West Mustangs

The Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES are taking a road trip to square off against the Midd-West Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mount Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

While Mount Carmel's win against Central Columbia wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The RED TORNADOES sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Bluejays on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the RED TORNADOES, who have now won three games in a row.

Noah Shimko looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mount Carmel's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Jason Klokis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Owen Ramirez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Midd-West had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Central Columbia by a score of 12-9 on Wednesday. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Midd-West let Braxton Smith and Kyle Shupp run wild. Smith scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Shupp scored three runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Shupp has posted since back in March of 2024. Alex Trogan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Mount Carmel's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Midd-West, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4.

Mount Carmel suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Midd-West in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the RED TORNADOES avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
