South Lyon is 9-1 against Mott since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Lions will welcome the Corsairs at 4:00 p.m. South Lyon's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Mott's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
South Lyon let Hartland stack four runs on them in the third inning on Saturday but luckily South Lyon prevailed anyway. The Lions came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-5.
Brayden Knieper looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aiden Robinson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Fox, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Mott was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 14-4 to Walled Lake Central, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Mott saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Pozzi-Mondeau, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another was Luis Caraballo, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs.
South Lyon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mott, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.
Mott's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Lyon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. It's a different story for Mott, though, as they've only averaged .350. Will they be able to contain South Lyon's hitters?
South Lyon took their win against Mott when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Corsairs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
