Football Recap: Lone Peak Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Lone Peak lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Corner Canyon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Knights put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 42-21 win on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Knights have posted against the Chargers since October 7, 2021.

A big part of Lone Peak's win came down to the chemistry between Cruz Christensen and his top target Jaron Pula. Christensen threw for 223 yards and four touchdowns while Pula picked up 155 receiving yards and three TDs. The dominant performance also gave Christensen a new career-high in rushing yards (ten). Sean Tahi helped out on the ground, rushing for 91 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Lone Peak didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Toa Tanuvasa led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Anthon 'Tony' Grimmer is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Despite the loss, Corner Canyon still got an impressive performance from Weston Briggs, who rushed for 136 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Another player making a difference was Kai Meza, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one TD.

Lone Peak pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 20.4 points. As for Corner Canyon, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 5-1.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Lone Peak will square off against rival American Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Corner Canyon is set to challenge their familiar foe Skyridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 912 yards in their previous games.
