The Mattoon Greenwave won the last time they faced the Richland County Tigers, and things went their way on Monday too. Mattoon walked away with a 48-35 victory over the Tigers. Given Mattoon's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Tigers are ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Danielle Reagan Brown, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Reagan Brown is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelysse Weiler, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Mattoon's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Richland County, they now have a losing record at 12-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattoon has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Braves at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Richland County, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Lawrenceville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Monday.
