Dwight has gone a perfect 6-0 against Gardner-South Wilmington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Trojans will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Dwight needed a bit of extra time to put away Midland. They came out on top against the Timberwolves by a score of 9-6. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Madi Ely made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over 7.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Ely was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dwight let Raegan Brown and Mikayla Ely run wild. Brown went 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Ely went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Ely a new career-high. Mckenna Woodcock was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Dwight kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Gardner-South Wilmington took on Donovan on Tuesday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted against the Wildcats since May 4, 2021.
Jo Male and Maddie Simms made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Male struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Simms didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over four innings pitched. Male has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Male went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Simms went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bella Dinelli, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
Gardner-South Wilmington has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Dwight, their record is now 6-13.
Dwight beat Gardner-South Wilmington 7-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
