The Midway Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Lenoir City Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Midway came up short against Coalfield on Tuesday, falling 10-4. The Green Wave haven't had much luck with the Yellow Jackets recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Midway saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Myley Nickell, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Nickell also scored a run, marking her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Lenoir City hadn't done well against Sequoyah recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Chiefs. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Kymbal Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Sophie Reed was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Helton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Lenoir City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Lenoir City has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Midway, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
Midway might still be hurting after the 20-10 loss they got from Lenoir City in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Green Wave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
