The Millennium Tigers will face off against the San Luis Sidewinders at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Millennium is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Millennium took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Mountain Ridge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Millennium narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mountain Ridge 7-6.
David Sheppard tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.
At the plate, Landon Swinheart was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Perrin, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Millennium hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Ridge struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, San Luis waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Raiders.
Erick Espinoza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last five contests.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Arnold Jimenez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Jesus Buzani, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
San Luis pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Millennium, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
