The Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers 's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Webster County. While losing is never fun, Mercer Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Webster County is ranked 20th).
Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chance Watkins, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of MJ Patton, who scored 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Mercer Christian Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Raydan Triplett was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds for Webster County. The contest was Triplett's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Logan Leichliter, who scored eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Mercer Christian Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 20-9 record last season and are now at 2-6. As for Webster County, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Mercer Christian Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Liberty at 11:15 a.m. on January 4th. As for Webster County, they will square off against James Monroe at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully James Monroe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
