The Y Yuma will head out on the road to square off against the Strasburg Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Y has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while the Indians will arrive with eight straight victories.
Y's game on Thursday was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wiggins. Y has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their game on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Y's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jade Lungwitz, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alina Moran, who scored seven points along with two blocks.
In what's become a running theme this season, Strasburg gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They blew past Liberty Common, posting a 76-16 victory on the road. Given Strasburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Eagles are ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Graecy Graf was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with seven assists and seven steals. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Damron, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Y's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Strasburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Y didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Indians in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 42-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Y since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
