Valdosta is 1-8 against Colquitt County since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Valdosta Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Colquitt County Packers at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Valdosta comes in on three and Colquitt County on eight.
Last Friday, Valdosta sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 win over Camden County. 24 seems to be a good number for Valdosta as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Among those leading the charge was Todd Robinson, who rushed for 132 yards while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 80 yards and a touchdown while completing 81.8% of his passes. Deron Foster and his 104 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Valdosta's win.
Meanwhile, even though Lowndes scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Colquitt County still came out on top. Colquitt County strolled past Lowndes with points to spare, taking the game 52-34. Given Colquitt County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Lowndes is ranked 54th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Colquitt County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Neko Fann, who threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt. Day'shawn Brown also helped out as he racked up 142 rushing yards.
Their wins bumped Valdosta to 7-2 and Colquitt County to 8-0.
Things could have been worse for Valdosta, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 24-6 loss to Colquitt County when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Valdosta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
