West Wendover is a perfect 3-0 against Oasis Academy since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Bighorns at 4:00 p.m. West Wendover will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
West Wendover is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over Silver Stage last Saturday. Considering the Wolverines have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
West Wendover got a massive performance out of Aidien Rodriguez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alonzo Carrillo, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
West Wendover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Oasis Academy came out on top against North Tahoe on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Bighorns walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Lakers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bighorns.
Matthew Bird made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Zachary Budner was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run was his first of the season. Fenn Mackedon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
West Wendover pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oasis Academy, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
West Wendover beat Oasis Academy 4-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Bighorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
