Chiara Cioffi was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordy Aardahl, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February. Savannah Munoz was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Taft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Arleta won against Orthopaedic on Wednesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Mustangs' way against North Hollywood as they made off with an 11-3 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Like Taft, Arleta also got a great game from a two-way player: NAOMI TACHIN. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. TACHIN was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Arleta let ADRIANA VASQUEZ DURAN and BRENDA AGUILAR run wild. VASQUEZ DURAN went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while AGUILAR went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was BRYGETTE RAYGOZA, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Taft picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 9-12. As for Arleta, their record is now 11-15.
Taft suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Arleta in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Can the Toreadors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
