Denbigh Baptist Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Hampton Christian Academy is ranked 89th).
Last Monday, Denbigh Baptist Christian came up short against Greenbrier Christian Academy and fell 39-32. Denbigh Baptist Christian has struggled against Greenbrier Christian Academy recently, as their match on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Payten Gary, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Dangerfield, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hampton Christian Academy put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Portsmouth Christian 84-33 on the road. Hampton Christian Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 24 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Mikaela Lee, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Hampton Christian Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Mahdy Sigler, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Denbigh Baptist Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Hampton Christian Academy, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Denbigh Baptist Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hampton Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
