Football Recap: Bear Grass Charter Finds Playoff Glory Versus North Edgecombe

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bear Grass Charter had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the North Edgecombe Warriors to the tune of 49-14. Considering the Bears have won six contests by more than 31 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bear Grass Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Vance Keel, who rushed for 97 yards and two scores on only ten carries, and also picked up 67 receiving yards and one touchdown. Coby Beck was another key player, rushing for 78 yards and a pair of TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bear Grass Charter was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 172 rushing yards in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why North Edgecombe lost, don't look at Saadiq Barber. Despite the final result, he rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown. Emmanuel Coley got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Bear Grass Charter pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for North Edgecombe, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Bear Grass Charter didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 43-6 defeat against Northside - Pinetown on the 21st. North Edgecombe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
