Marshalltown was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 4A Division 3. The Bobcats vanquished Ottumwa 49-7 earlier in the week.
Marshalltown was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Bulldogs 49-7. Dave Holdiman's team came in at 19 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
The Bobcats' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Blake Gimbel threw for 313 and four touchdowns and Tad Steffensen had 162 yards receiving. On the ground Colten Fuller chipped in 35 yards. De'Quan McDowell helped Marshalltown's passing attack out by catching five balls for 59 yards.
Marshalltown's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bobcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Gimbel has thrown for 2274 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Steffensen has 60 catches for 841 yards. Fuller leads the league in rushing with 204 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Marshalltown takes on Hoover. The Bobcats' offense has racked up 218 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Huskies have allowed only 200 on the year.
A big matchup in 4A Division 3 this week will be when Marshalltown takes on Hoover. The Bobcats are in first place, while the Huskies are in fourth place.
Marshalltown led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Ottumwa. Gimbel ran for 22 yards in the win.
